Our Story

​

We’re Matty and Em – overlanders, campers, adventure seekers, content creators and lovers of the outdoors. Together we created Borderland Explorers to document our travels and share the adventures we experience on the road. With one lap of Australia under our belt, we decided to do a second. You could say we’re a little bit addicted to this stuff!

At the start of 2021 we embarked on a 12 month, 36,000km trip around Australia in our self-contained 105 series Landcruiser. This cross-continental expedition was done in a softshell rooftop tent with a basic setup in the rear (compared to some of the fit outs you see on the road today). This experience further ignited our love for off-grid travel, overlanding, and exploring our great country in a 4x4.

Our second lap of Australia is fully underway, and it’s even bigger and better than the first. We reckon the only thing better than spending a year on the road is spending a second year on the road!

We are completing the lap in our brand new Isuzu DMAX that we purchased as a bare bones cab chassis so we could heavily modify it into the ultimate overlanding 4x4. We are proud to have built a rig with the highest quality products that are reliable, repeatable, and high performing. The Aussie landscape can be tough and unforgiving on vehicles, and we wanted to ensure we had the right fit-out to tackle it. Learn more about the gear we use here.
